Othello is known for his out of hand actions towards his wife Desdimona, due to his unforeseen jealousy. Many people around the world have terrible jealousy towards their loved ones creating inhabitable environments at home. An example for this would be 42 year old Debbie Wood, who cannot bear for her fiance to lie his eyes on another woman, even for a second. She was diagnosed with "Othello Syndrome" because her jealousy is so extreme, and is non existent. The extreme measures that Mrs Woods goes through to keep her husband loyal shows how paran

“Alice. The sound of her name penetrated her every her every cell and seemed to scatter her molecules beyond the boundaries of her own skin. She watched herself from the far corner of the room.”

Until the words exited her doctors mouth, Alice always thought that Alzheimer's was something that only people over the age of 80 ended up with.  The moment the words hit her she was in shock, unable to speak, unable to grasp the idea that she was no longer, in her mind, perfect. Alice, a professor at Harvard, had always been able to recite her lectures of the top of her head never forgetting a single detail. After hearing this news Alice is more frightened to tell others, worried that her reputation will be ruined for ever, that her hard work will go down the drain along with her memory. To Alice what people think of you is key, her students look up to her as a role model, and her colleagues see her as an inspiration for all her hard work. She is worried that image of herself that she has worked so hard creating, will just disappear as soon as people find out she has a disease. The one person Alice fears telling the most is her husband knowing that just like her he will be in shock. Alice however, fears that he may not accept this as the new reality or even worse leaves her to fend for herself. All of these thoughts run through Alice’s head at a thousand miles per hour, constantly looping back to her mind scaring her even more away from telling those around her about her situation.

“January nineteenth. Nothing good ever happened on that day.”

32 years ago to that day, Alice was faced with the devastating news that her mother and her sister both died in a devastating car accident. Alice never considered herself superstitious like her husband however she never did anything out of the ordinary on this day besides visiting their grave. That was until today when Alice decided that she had to go see a doctor about her memory problems. Seeing as Alice thought nothing was wrong with herself, that this was just simply a symptom of menopause, she believed that nothing could go wrong. That this simple doctors visit would just confirm her prior assumptions and that it was completely normal to be having these issues. Just as in the future however, this day brought nothing but bad news and Alice wanted to kick herself for not keeping with tradition. January nineteenth was the day Alice could no longer look at herself or the world the same. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and from now on nothing would ever be the same.

Alice is a very intelligent and prestigious professor at Harvard University. She is a strong believer that education is the key to open any door in which you’d like to enter. She does have a high opinion on those who do not go to university. Anyone who does not follow down the universal path of going to university and instantly finding a job they love, simply seems like a person with no passion and drive to Alice. Since she feels so strongly about the topic of education she could not see herself being anything other than an educator. Travelling all over the country to give lectures and inspire the minds of the next generation, Alice believes like she is making a difference. Alice sees herself working at Harvard until her memory is too weak to keep up with her course load, even if that means she has to be dragged out, Harvard is her second home. Even though Alice hardly drives, and walks to work every day, if she were to personalize her license plate that is what it would be, because she would want to broadcast her intentions to all of those who were impacted by her knowledge and wisdom.

1. "Comfortably warm in her fleece, Alice took her time walking home, enjoying the cold autumn air smell and the crunchy swishing sound her feet made as they strolled through the piles of leaves."
Alice and her husband John both love the work that they tae part in and rarely take the time to enjoy their surroundings. This allows us the reader to feel the comfort and joy that Alice experiences as the fall season is in full bloom. This blissful moment that Alice experiences is only created because of her lacking to remember she was supposed to be on her way to Chicago. This peaceful moment is, the the calm before the storm, the moment that Alice realizes there is truly something wrong with herself.
"Her colleagues were all brilliant and odd, quick to help and argue, ambitious and humble. They were family."
Alice and her colleagues are very found of each other, and respect the work that each of them produce. This quote allows us to picture a warm group of staff, all having their own quirks and flaws, they are all equal in Alice's eyes. It allows us to know that Alice has a network of people in her life who care a lot about her, and her about them.

2. Alice is  a hardworking psychology professor at Harvard. She works in a dull looking building called the William James Hall, however she has a unobstructed view of the Charles River and Boston's Back Bay from her office. When Alice had started working she worked in a windowless room and would tend to work far into the night without knowing it. Now that she has earned her higher position being on the tenth floor, it shows her superiority in the department.
Alice is a keen runner, which allows her to relieve her stresses at all hours of the day or night. She lives very near the famous Harvard Square which her running route takes her through. It is in the Harvard Square on normal afternoon that Alice has her first shock. This average afternoon was the day that Alice started to realize that her memory was beginning to fade when she could not remember her way home.

Zach Wahls speech about family, conveys his emotion and feelings towards his audience. He caught my attention right off the bat because his points were very clear and easy to follow. Zach brings personal examples into his speech so that audience feels a direct connection into Zach's argument. Even though he stumbles occasionally, it only strengthens the speech because it just shows how much this topic means to him, and how anxious he is to get his point across. His clarity and annunciation are very strong which makes it even harder to believe that he is only 18 years old.

Genetically modified foods, better known as GMO's, are the cause of many modern health issues. Soy and corn are the main two, and most commonly found genetically modified foods. Since 1996 soy and corn have had genes of bacteria and viruses forced into their DNA, even though it was never FDA approved. FDA scientists constantly warned people about the possible allergens and health risks these foods imposed however, the FDA did not listen to its scientists. The FDA did not require a single safety test and soon many other foods were being genetically modified. Companies which have been proven to hide toxins in their products are now telling us that it is safe to eat their genetically modified foods. The major GMO foods on the market now are corn, soy, cotton, canola, sugar beats, and alfalfa. Most GMO foods either have viruses or bacteria inserted into them that allows them to survive under harsh chemicals such as pesticides. This means that most foods will have a high concentration of pesticide residue left on them when they are processed into other goods. Another common change in GMO foods is that they insert a gene from soil bacteria called Bt, (Bacilius thuringiensis), which acts as a built in pesticide.

This article helped me because one of the main causes of Celiac disease is GMO foods, and how they are much more common in the 21st century. I originally did not know what GMO foods were made by, and how much of a risk that they can impose on our lives. It shocked to me to discover that most GMO foods have pesticides injected in them to make sure they have a better chance of surviving. This article has made me interesting in looking for more articles about how GMO's may have been the cause of the recent outbreak of the celiac disease.

The Luddite Argument

New ideas and inventions are being born into the world much faster now then they use to be. The topic of protection and safety is often being brought up as we always question how safe we feel. The level of security in places such as airports and government buildings has grown ever since the most fatal terrorist attack 9/11. Security companies bombarded government officials with new high tech ways of keeping the country safe. The difference between the old security systems and the new is that they are now using biometric data. Our physical characteristics are what separate us from the rest of the world. Unlike a security code which can be rewritten, our physical traits cannot be changed. I do not want the government to hold onto the one thing that is mine, my identity. Security breaches are so common in the modern world, and if someone were to steal my finger prints or vocal range I would no longer exist. Even though the government is trying to protect us, there must be a barrier that they cannot cross. It is our right to freedom and I believe that keeping our genetic data to ourselves is something worth fighting for. If the government were to mess up and lose human identities there would be an outbre

The story Once Upon a Time was easy to follow and understand. I had difficulty understanding the symbolism of the wicked witch and the wall. Out of all the questions, figuring out the theme and feeling being portrayed in the story were the easiest. I need to work on annotating and making notes while I read so that I can

The Olympics are a worldwide gathering that are exciting and bring all of the worlds nations together. The recent outbreak of hatred to gays, however, has shocked the world with what they believed to no longer be an issue. Prejudice against someone’s beliefs and sexual intentions were believed to be a thing from the past and something in which should no longer exist. The phenomenon that is happening in Russia due to their leader President Vladimir Putin has definitely made people think twice about how far we have come as a human race. Putin declared a law against all propaganda about those with different sexual intentions, that not only will affect those in Russia but also any who plan to partake in the up and coming 2014 Sochi Olympics. With this law gay Russian athletes are not allowed to participate in the Olympic games, and many other nations fear that their gay athletes will not be safe if they plan to participate.

Stephen Fry wrote an open letter concerning the recent laws in Russia and how if not stopped history will repeat itself. Fry compares the recent outbreak to the Holocaust because innocent people are being scapegoated and majority of the world does not even know it is occurring. I do believe that Fry has an accurate comparison; even if the Holocaust seems like an unspeakable matter when compared to Russia it shows the severity of the matter. I find it shocking that something so large has not been a main focus in the news so that something can be done. I do not believe the Olympics should be boycotted as many officials suggest. The more people in Sochi for the Olympics the better; this will increase the amount of media in the area and to the rest of the world, which will hopefully allow the whole world to see what is occurring. No matter what the officials in Russia believe not one type of person should be discriminated, especially in this modern era, and it should be stopped immediately before it escalates any further.
