What are Hugo's motives; why does he manipulate the other characters?
In the movie “O”, Hugo, one of the main characters, has very jealous intentions from the start. He lacks love and affection from his father, who does not pay attention to Hugo. Hugo’s father discards Hugo and treats his team mate Odin more like a son than he ever did to hugo. Hugo is very jealous of the treatment that Odin receives and becomes determined to do anything, hurt anyone, to get his father’s affection. Hugo goes behind everyone’s back keeping many lies, and keeping on everyone’s good side.
Why might Odin be vulnerable to Hugo's actions?
Odin is vulnerable to Hugo’s actions because he is a very jealous character. Odin’s life before he came to the high school was troubling and difficult, which after he hears about Desi, begins to go back to. He is very gullible, and believes everything that Hugo says, never trusting that his love for Desi was enough. He loved Desi so much that he could never see her with another guy, and would do anything to make sure she never ended up with someone else.
